WHAT DOES THE CITY COUNCIL DO?

The City Council is responsible for:

  • Making policy for the City of Atlanta

  • Making laws to run the city government

    • Ordinances: official acts of the City Council with the force and effect of law 

    • Resolutions:express intent or support of various projects and enterprises or establish legislative policy of a general nature

  • Oversight of multiple agencies, boards, and commissions

  • Work to ensure safer and cleaner streets, bolster Atlanta’s economy, and institute many community-based programs. 

  • Budget process and financial well being of Atlanta.
